Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News/Auto Briefs -21 May 2008: -- Automakers, Wal-Mart , the Environmental Protection Agency and the oil industry joined forces Tuesday to try to convince Americans to save gasoline by driving smarter. The groups unveiled a Web site, drivesmarterchallenge.org, designed to convince drivers to save fuel... Among their ideas: Take heavy items (like a set of golf clubs) out of the trunk. Taking 100 pounds out of a trunk can improve fuel efficiency by 2 percent. Reduce speed. Speeding, rapid acceleration and rapid braking can reduce gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway...
