Sydney,Australia -The Australian, by Matthew Franklin -March 1, 2008: -- Devices that monitor the working hours of truck drivers and the speed of their vehicles will be tested as part of a $70million road safety package... The funding will also be used to help states build more truck rest-stops and parking areas along highways and upgrade freight routes so trucks can carry bigger loads... Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese unveiled the package yesterday after a meeting with state transport ministers... Mr Albanese said he was shocked after the Rudd Government took office late last year to learn that Australia was unlikely to achieve a target stated in 2000 to reduce road deaths by 40 per cent by 2010...
