* Canada - Fuel costs take toll on truck companies

Windson,Ontario, Canada -The Windsor Star, by Barbara Simpson -March 25, 2008: -- Dennis Knapp has spent nights crunching the numbers, searching desperately for a way to save his business from rising diesel prices... Knapp, owner of JGE Transport in Essex, says he has will scale back to four trucks from his current fleet of 13 because of expensive diesel and insurance, starting next month. And he'll have to lay off 10 of his 13 drivers... The price of gas will continue to increase for various reasons, including the weakening U.S. dollar and increasing demand in Europe, said Catherine Hay, a senior associate with M.J. Ervin... If the cost of diesel continues to rise, the company's future is grim, said Gabriel Dragomir, operations supervisor for Delta Logistics Transportation...
