Blizzard of 2008 * USA - They can't keep on truckin'

Sure, John Riggle has seen snow like this -- in Colorado

Columbus,OH,USA -The Columbus Dispatch, by Josh Jarman -March 9, 2008: -- ... The 58-year-old long-haul trucker was one of many holed up yesterday at the Flying J truck stop at I-70 and Rt. 158, about 20 miles east of Columbus... "We couldn't get off the highway at our stop, so we decided to get to a place of safety," Riggle said. "We're camping out"... He was headed to Kentucky before pulling his "bobtailed" rig -- a truck without a trailer -- into the parking lot about 7 a.m. yesterday. "I'll be here until Monday or Tuesday at this rate"... Yesterday, there was nothing for him to do but watch TV in the truckers lounge and call his wife, Tish, back in St. Peters, Mo... That was the case for almost 70 truckers stranded at the truck stop. Worried that the station was going to run out of fuel, drivers lined up at the pumps. At one point, 13 trucks were lined up across the overpass of I-70 and down the offramp, waiting to get into the station... Riggle blasted the "super truckers" who drive in any weather... "These are nuclear weapons," he said... (Photo: Shawn Anderson, a truck driver from Beloit, Kan., tries to help extricate a truck from the Flying J truck-stop parking lot at I-70 and Rt. 158)
