A moving experience... * Germany - ... Moving Emmaus Church...
God moves in mysterious waves... but not half as clever as a Mammoet multi-axle, all-steering heavy movement platform pictured below. Now here IS a moving story
Heuersdorf,Germany -Biglorryblog (UK) -4 Jan 2008: -- When the villagers of Heuersdorf in Germany faced a 12km move to the nearby town of Borna, they didn’t even leave the village church behind, let alone the kitchen sink. The village’s 700-tonne, solid-stone Emmaus Church (which had been standing for over 700 years) was moved to Borna on the aforementioned Mammoet special transport vehicle, "... using 160 Continental IC40 Extra Deep industrial pneumatic tyres"... The complex project, involving high-precision manoeuvring into the centre of Borna, was made possible by the platform's hydraulically-activated, individually-steered axles which can "each support a 40-tonne weight while the wheels and turn 360° while stationary... According to the PR blurb: "The slow and painstaking journey took the Church over two rivers and a level crossing and attracted thousands of people who turned out for the special farewell"... The question is: Did someone upstairs part the waters of the two rivers for them?... Well... Better call for Mammoet (Errr...guess where this press release came from!
