Maccle-sfield,Cheshire,UK -Road Transport, by Roger Brown -28 November 2007: -- F Swain & Sons says it is on the verge of snapping up a rival haulier... Andy Powell, F Swain finance director, says the firm is in "advanced talks" with a company with a turnover of £4m to £5m, but "can't say much more at this stage"... Pre-tax profit for the year to March 2007 for the firm went up to £113,019 in 2007 from £104,749 the previous year...
* Meachers proposes Southampton consolidation centre

The haulier says it is in the process of ordering eight new Euro 5 Daf XF105s, but is waiting to hear when they will be delivered... The managing director George Craib, is hopeful that his long relationship with Daf, and the fact that he is purchasing Super Space cabs, might act as an incentive for the manufacturer to let him jump the queue and make the chassis available earlier than usual...
