STRIKE * Panama/Costa Rica - Truckers Block Panamanian Border in Costa Rica
Costa Rica -Costa Rica News, Travel and Reviews, by Paul Smith -24 Nov 2007: -- The border crossings between Panama and Costa Rica have been blocked in protest by truck drivers associated with the Costa Rican Chamber of Unitarian Truckers who want to see a change in the traffic law and a reduction in diesel fuel prices... The main reason for the protests is because of the Spanish/Costa Rican firm Riteve who are a monopoly on annual vehicle inspections and who have recently announced the price hikes that the truckers believe will have a negative impact on the poorer sectors... The strike began on Tuesday earlier this week after Panamanian colleagues took similar action just the other side of the border for the same reasons. The protest is only preventing other trucks entry to and from Costa Rica with cars and tourist buses being allowed through the blockades...
