CONTROLS * Malaysia - JPJ insists it checks logging trucks

Kota Kinabalu,Malaysia -The Malaysia Star, by RUBEN SARIO -October 10, 2007: -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is insisting that it is clamping down on lorry operators transporting logs illegally in the interior Keningau district... RTD director general Datuk Ahmad Mustapha Abdul Rashid said allegations that the department had not acted against such offenders were untrue... Abdul Mustapha said the department had carried out its own probe into logging trucks that were detained at Keningau in mid-August after Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) officials discovered that they did not have the necessary permits... ACA officials also discovered that some of the 22 logging trucks had no valid road tax and no safety features with some of the drivers in possession of expired driving licences...
