Sao Paulo,Brazil -Bloomberg By Telma Marotto & Andre Solian -Oct. 9, 2007: -- Brazil's government is seeking to attract 5.1 billion reais ($2.8 billion) in investments to repair and expand roads in the next five years with an auction today of licenses to operate federal freeways... Companies will bid for seven licenses to operate 2,601 kilometers (1,616 miles) of federal government roads at the Sao Paulo stock exchange as of 1 p.m. New York time, a spokeswoman for the national transportation agency in Brasilia said... Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, 61, is seeking to attract private investment to improve Brazil's roads and highways as part of a government effort to support faster growth of South America's largest economy. About 60 percent of the country's freight travels by truck compared with 16 percent in the U.S., said Sergio Mendes, director of the Brazilian Association of Grain Exporters...
