Tokyo,Japan -Reuters -August 9, 2007: -- Top Japanese tire maker Bridgestone Corp. posted a 21.3 percent rise in half-year operating profit as the yen weakened and sales grew, especially in higher-margin segments, and tweaked its recently increased forecasts for the full year... Operating profit for January-June was 102.01 billion yen ($852.6 million) while net profit rose 61.3 percent to 52.94 billion yen, the Tokyo-based company said today...
* Canada - Hy-Drive suffers fallout from manufacturing defect
Mississauga,Ont,CAN -The Toronto Star -8 Aug 2007: -- Hy-Drive Technologies yesterday admitted a design flaw in its hydrogen-injection system for diesel-powered engines has been costly. The system is designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions by injecting small amounts of hydrogen into the combustion chamber of a truck’s engine. CEO Tom Brown was quoted in today’s as saying the defect is not widespread, although it caused some on-board generators to crack after extended use... Shares in the company dropped 30% on the news...
