The restriction prevents trucks from using the highway as a connection to Interstate 35. Opening the route to truckers would relieve congestion on other roadways, they argue... The collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis into the Mississippi River Wednesday evening severed a couple of major channels for commercial traffic - mostly on the road but also on the river. Last year, 4,840 trucks crossed the bridge on a daily basis, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, or MnDOT... Using state data, the Minnesota Trucking Association in 2000 analyzed the cost of a bridge closure at $119,000 per day for trucking companies...
