STUDY * Canada - Truck drivers among the most frequently injured at work
Ottawa,Ont,CAN -Truck News, by James Menzies -10 July 2007: -- A new study by Statistics Canada shows 630,000 Canadians were injured on the job in 2003, with truck driving being among the most hazardous occupations... The StatsCan report was published today in Health Reports. It estimates 5% of the male workforce suffered on-the-job injuries in 2003 compared to 2% of women. The overall workplace injury rate was 4%... The figures were considerably higher in the trades, transport and equipment operation category where 9% of employees suffered a job-related injury. The most common types of work-related injuries involved the worker’s hands (28%), followed by the lower back (16%). The study also found the odds of injury were 40% higher for employees who worked 45 to 79 hours per week...
