Trucking Association * Australia - Demerit system won't boost road safety
The Northern Territory Trucking Association says a demerit points system is not the answer to making the roads safer
Australia -ABC Regional Online -June 20, 2007: -- The Territory system will include penalties for drivers who fail to stop at level crossings... The Association's Executive Officer Peter Goed says while there's no excuse for not stopping at a level crossing, imposing demerit points for Territory truck drivers is not the solution... Mr Goed says a balance needs to be found between penalising people for breaking the law and educating drivers about good behaviour... He says a demerit points systems in other jurisdictions have failed to improve road safety...
