Roadcheck 2007 * USA - Maine's inspects commerical trucks for safety violations

Kittery,Maine,USA -The Foster's Daily Democrat (Dover,NH), by STEVEN GINTZ -June 23, 2007: -- State Police said while work still needs to be done, commercial trucking throughout the state is steadily improving in terms of proper operation and safety... The biggest driver-related violation, said State Police Lt. Thomas Kelly, is the falsifying of records of duty status, either with errors in records or to conceal they have driven more hours than allowed. Out of 673 total inspections, 61 false records of duty status were found, according to police records... On the vehicle-related side, Kelly said most problems involve brakes, but police require immediate work to be done, regardless of the issue. A total of 79 vehicles were declared out of service and needing work, said Kelly... Additionally, with inspections being random, other issues are discovered as well, including drug and alcohol violations and even immigration issues...
