The blind spot mirrors will enable drivers to cover the dead angleBrussels,Belgium -International Business Times (Paris,France) -10 May 2007: -- The European Parliament on Thursday approved a plan to fit all trucks operating in the European Union since 2000, with blind spot mirrors in an effort to improve road safety... Under the plan, which still needs the approval of EU member states to take effect, all vehicles weighing more than 3.5 metric tons must be equipped with the mirrors... Some five million trucks currently operate in the EU. Vehicles older than seven years are less likely to be involved in a serious accident, the EU executive Commission concluded based on a study, and the new rules therefore do not apply to them... Each year, 400 Europeans - many of them children on bikes - are killed when lorry drivers changing direction at a crossing or roundabout fail to see them in a blind spot around the vehicle, the EU estimates...
