* Canada - More radio calling won’t help safety: trucker
Prince George,British Columbia,Canada -The Prince George Citizen, by GORDON HOEKSTRA -10 May 2007: -- If one of the results of investigations into the death of a logging truck driver near Mackenzie in March 2006 is to increase the frequency of radio calling by empty logging trucks on back roads, it will not improve safety, Prince George Trucking Association president Stan Wheeldon said Wednesday... An underlying cause listed by the WorkSafe investigation in the deadly crash was an amended radio procedure, changed by Canfor Corp. during the winter of 2005-06, that directed loaded logging truck to call their kilometre positions and empty logging trucks to listen. Previously, both loaded and empty logging trucks had called their positions on truck radios... The WorkSafe B.C. investigation report found that the failure of the forests ministry to co-ordinate activities of the various employers using the road system near Mackenzie contributed to the crash...
