* USA - Plug it in, fire it up, Mr. President

Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford's hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week... * USA - Buyers reporting increased transportation rates in October: 58% -Source: Purchasing Data - WHAT IT MEANS: The percentage is a slight uptick from the September survey, but both are a welcome drop from the August highs in the 80% range. Only 40% expect transportation prices to increase in the next quarter.

* USA - Buyers that say DHL has become more aggressive in its pricing: 30% -Source: Bear Stearns survey -WHAT IT MEANS: The competition in the small parcel market continues. According to a mid-year survey, only 9% of shippers say DHL has become firmer on its pricing. The remaining 61% of shippers responded that rates are about the same as they were a few months ago.
* India - Nissan will sell vehicle under $3,000 in
Nashik,India -The Detroit News (Detroit,Mich,USA) -7 Apr 2007: -- Nissan Motor Co ., Japan's third-biggest automaker, plans to sell cars for less than $3,000 in India to challenge Suzuki Motor Corp. in a market where small cars account for three-quarters of sales... That price would be the cheapest model currently sold by Nissan.
* Canada - 'Green tax' may cause harm, mayors claim
Woodstock,Ontario,CAN -The Detroit News (Detroit,Mich,USA) -7 Apr 2007: -- The Ontario Mayors for Automotive Investment say a tax on gas-guzzling vehicles announced in the recent federal budget will do little to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At a meeting Wednesday in Woodstock, Ontario, the mayors claimed the tax could have a negative impact on Ontario's automotive industry. They hope to persuade federal policymakers to soften their stance on the "green levy," which adds $862 to $3,448 to the price of vehicles.
* Italy - Fiat to begin $1.87M buyback next week
Milan,Italy -The Detroit News (Detroit,Mich,USA) -7 Apr 2007: -- Fiat will launch a $1.87 billion share buyback plan next week, the Italian carmaker said Thursday, after the company turned a profit last year. Speaking at a news conference after the company's annual shareholder meeting in its home city of Turin, Fiat Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said the company is on track to meet its financial targets for the year.
