"GREEN" NEWS * Japan - Govt plans new move to curb vehicle emissions
Osaka,Japan -The Yomiuri Shimbun -2 Dec 2006: -- In an attempt to curb air pollution in the three major metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, the Environment Ministry will make it obligatory for large stores to reduce the number of vehicles that transport their goods but do not comply with exhaust fume standards... The ministry will submit a bill to amend the Automobile NOx PM Control Law during the ordinary Diet session next year... Currently, only transport companies in large cities are subject to such regulation. But the ministry concluded that it is difficult under the current law to reduce air pollution caused by vehicles driving into Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, and the surrounding areas. Taking this into consideration, the ministry decided to require cargo owners, mainly department stores and supermarkets, to work on a plan to reduce the number of vehicles exceeding nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emission standards...
