Love story - Australia - Trucking couple's devotion to life on the road
Queensland,Australia -The Daily Telegraph/CARSguide, by Patrick Whiteley-19 June 2006: -- Alan Oke pulled his shiny new Kenworth road train into the Blue Heeler pub in western Queensland and ordered his regular rest-break meal. The truckie wiped the sweat from his brow and then noticed a young Kiwi backpacker working behind the bar. Nicola Riddell had escaped her sleepy New Zealand country town seeking adventure in the Australian Outback. More than 10 years later, her adventure keeps rolling on and on... Alan and Nicola were hitched soon after that fateful day in 1995. They continue to work as a team, driving two-up on the Darwin to Sydney route... Operating a 115-tonne road train would be daunting for most people, but Nicola says it's one of the best jobs in the world and a major change from her former office work... Two trailers are pulled for 800km and a single trailer covers 400km... Nicola says they take a week off every two months to refresh, then it's on the road again...
