Could the technology work for larger vehicles -- trucks, say?... Truck manufacturers such as Bellevue-based Paccar Inc. believe so
Seattle,WASH,USA -Seattle Post Intelligencer, by BILL VIRGIN -June 9, 2006: -- Hybrid cars, which employ a technology combining gasoline and electric motors, are a hot item these days for motorists looking for ways to cut their fuel bills... The parent of Kenworth and Peterbilt says it plans to make hybrid-power medium-duty trucks available in 2008... Its competitors are also looking at the technology and, in some cases, already have hybrids on the market. Portland-based Freightliner (a unit of DaimlerChrysler) says it is supplying 93 hybrid-power chassis to FedEx and UPS for walk-in vans, according to a spokeswoman. Freightliner expects to make another announcement about hybrid vehicles later this summer... Volvo Group recently announced that it plans to introduce hybrid-technology trucks for such applications as in-city distribution and refuse trucks...
