Develop - USA - Eaton's hybrid electric system for refuse trucks
Akron,OH,USA -Waste News -June 23, 2006: -- Eaton Corp. is beginning development of a hybrid electric power system for heavy-duty Class 8 commercial vehicles, a category that includes trash trucks... The system will be designed to improve on-road efficiency and idle reduction, which will save fuel and cut emissions, Eaton said. The Class 8 system will share many components currently used by the company to make hybrid electric systems for smaller trucks... Recent testing shows a 5 percent to 7 percent fuel consumption reduction while driving and a gallon-per-hour savings while parked, the company said. That would save about $9,500 per year in fuel for a typical truck...
