It's been 13 years since GM and Ford both posted annual losses, and the two automakers may be on the verge of doing it again. As the losses mount, they are using wads of reserve cash to keep operations going. But how quickly the struggling giants can restructure, downsize and revive automotive profits and generate positive cash flow again will determine long-term success. Without consistent profits, product programs suffer. And no automaker has ever recovered and survived without hot cars and trucks with decent profit margins...
