Controls - USA - New PierPASS tags on port trucks
LONG BEACH,Cal,USA -Press Telegram, by Felix Sanchez -13 Jan 2006: -- Cargo trucks going into the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will now be outfitted with electronic tags, similar to devices on automated carpool lanes, in a bid to quicken traffic at the facilities and improve security... PierPASS is starting the tag program in response to Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Coast Guard mandates that only trucks needing to be at the ports be permitted inside... The radio frequency identification tags to be installed on trucks are similar to the FasTrak and E-Z pass devices now used on Southern California roads for collecting tolls at carpool lanes. The program will begin in March...
