Off highway - Australia -Rail investment to take hundreds of trucks
A $1.4 billion private sector investment in the Sydney to Brisbane rail network is expected to take 400 trucks a day off the Pacific Highway
Australia -ABC Online -Dec 1, 2005: -- The Australian Rail Track Corporation, which manages the rail system in country New South Wales, says its investment will make rail competitive with road transport within five years... The movement of freight is a significant challenge: "It's going to be a big problem for this country over the next 20 years as the freight movements more than double and unless we make rail an active and competitive mode of freight transport all that's going to happen is that our roads are going to become more and more congested. So we're aiming to move the corridor on the eastern seaboard from around 15 per cent to around 30 per cent and that should take some 400 semi-trailers off the road and onto rail."...
