GreenNews - USA - CARB to Require Proof Truck Engines Meet Emission Standards

USA -Transport TopicsNews, by Thelma Guerrero -28 Nov 2005: -- Starting Jan. 1, owners and operators of all diesel-powered heavy trucks operating in California will be required to show proof each vehicle’s engine meets federal emission standards for the model year in which the engine was manufactured, said an official with the California Air Resources Board... The new requirement, still must be approved by the agency’s board of directors. That vote, scheduled for Dec. 8, is just a formality, he said... "We have had a problem: with trucks missing labels or having labels that don’t match the engine’s model year,” said Allen Lyons, chief of CARB’s mobile source operations division... He said the purpose of the new regulation is “to prohibit the operation in California of trucks that do not have U.S.-certified engines”, that meet emission standards...
