* German regulator probes trades in Porsche shares
FRANKFURT,Germany -Reuters -Dec 16, 2005: German securities watchdog BaFin opened an official investigation into trading of Porsche shares prior to the sports car maker's investment in Volkswagen, the regulator said on Friday. "We're examining conspicuous movements in the share price of Porsche before the company stated it had bought a stake in Volkswagen," a spokeswoman for BaFin said, adding: "It has to do with transactions before the drop in the (Porsche) share price..."


* VW may get 3 billion euros for Europcar, Gedas
FRANKFURT,Germany -Financial Times Deutschland/Reuters -Dec 15, 2005: Volkswagen could get nearly 3 billion euros ($3.6 billion) for the sale of its car rental agency Europcar and IT services unit Gedas... Citing well-informed sources, a German business daily said that Europcar could fetch 2.5 billion euros when the unit is sold in April by the latest, while the more imminent disposal of Gedas should bring in 450 million euros if it is sold to either U.S. firm EDS or Deutsche Telekom unit T-Systems this month...

* DaimlerChrysler looking at more big job cuts, report says
FRANKFURT,Germany -The Stuttgarter Zeitung/Reuters -Dec 15, 2005: DaimlerChrysler AG's supervisory board will discuss big job cuts on Friday, Dec. 16, beyond those already planned, a German newspaper reported... The Stuttgarter Zeitung, citing several sources, said the supervisory board would review a working document drawn up by DaimlerChrysler's management board for thousands of additional job cuts over the 2006-2008 period to cut costs...

* Christian group revives boycott threat against Ford
DETROIT,Mich,USA -Automotive News, by Dale Jewett -Dec 15, 2005: A conservative Christian group said it is considering a boycott of Ford Motor Co. products after the automaker said it would run corporate ads in gay and lesbian publications... The American Family Association, based in Tupelo, Miss., said Thursday that "the option of a boycott is now very much alive"...

* Industry body sees Italy car sales rising in 2006
MILAN,Italy -Reuters -Dec 15, 2005: New car sales in Italy are expected to rise to 2.25 million units in 2006 from 2.24 million in 2005, industry body UNRAE's chairman said on Thursday... UNRAE Chairman Salvatore Pistola said in a conference. "For 2006, we can indicate a similar figure to that of this year, that is, 2.25 million cars, volumes that match the targets of European car makers," he added... Fiat took more than 30 percent of the Italian car market for the first time in almost two years in November, as new models started to woo back clients...
