Fatality - USA - Record low highway fatality rate in 2004

WASHINGTON,DF,USA -The Trucker -1 Aug 2005: -- The fatality rate on the nation’s highways in 2004 was the lowest since record-keeping began 30 years ago, according to early results released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)... Fatalities from large truck crashes increased slightly from 5,036 to 5,190. However, fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel (VMT) continued to fall. In 2004 there were 1.46 fatalities per 100 million VMT, down from 1.48 in 2003, numbers which are often unreported by mainstream media when reporting on fatalities. In 1966 the rate was 5.5 per 100 million VMT, or 50,894...
