Cutting 2 - USA - GM plant starts layoffs
Detroit,Mich,USA - Detroit Free Press -Aug 27, 2005: -- Five percent of the General Motors Corp. workers in Doraville, Ga., began receiving layoff notices Friday, a consequence of languid sales of the four minivan models assembled at the plant. The 155 layoffs take effect Sept. 6... The reduction will drop the Doraville work force to about 2,950. GM spokeswoman said additional trims via early retirement might follow. She said they might find replacement work through job banks within the company... AUSTRALIA TOO: GM Holden Ltd., the Australian arm of General Motors Corp., said it will slash jobs as it struggles with falling sales of its flagship Commodore model. As many as 1,400 jobs could be eliminated...
