BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va,USA -Centre Daily Times/Centre County,PA, by VICKI SMITH/Associated Press -Jul. 31, 2005: -- ... In a sleepy town of 700 where only 13 voters showed up for local elections two years ago, hundreds have united to try to ban trucks from the federal highway that cuts through their community... The state Division of Highways estimates 10,000 vehicles, including 1,700 trucks, travel U.S. 522 in West Virginia daily. In Berkeley Springs, repeat trips boost that to about 14,000... "Tourism is our business," she says. "So when you're putting all the pollutants in the air, into a tourist town that considers itself a health mecca, what kind of statement is that? It's an oxymoron."...
