Long-hauling is fine,” said Meyer, 57, of Berkeley, N.J., who retired from a job at Verizon Communications in 2003 and is attending Shore Tractor Trailer Training. “I’m single; the kids are grown up. I am all by myself.” ... This is music to the trucking industry’s ears. Chances are he’ll get a job...

WE NEED MORE GOOD DRIVERS. THIS INDUSTRY IS GOING DOWN HILL WITH THE LOSS OF DRIVERS RETIRING, QUITTING BECAUSE OF TOO MUCH TIME AWAY FROM HOME, THE PARTICULAR LIFESTYLE IN GENERAL. THIS INDUSTRY ISN'T FOR THE WEAK HEARTED. YOU HAVE TO INVEST ALL YOU HAVE TO GIVE, OR LOSE ALL YOU GOT.
