Google Groups - misc.transport.trucking, by Dave Smith -15 Jun 2005: -- The environmental benefits of using hydrogen in a fuel cell vehicle could be significant but this greatly depends on the source of the hydrogen. For example, if the hydrogen is produced by electrolysis from water using electricity from a renewable source (e.g. utility supplied hydro-electricity or wind energy) then the net greenhouse gas emissions can almost be neutral. But if instead utility fossil fuel generation provides the electricity then the net greenhouse gas emissions would be significantly higher.
