CORRUPTION - MOCAMBIQUE/AFR - Nampula Traffic Police Accused

Maputo,Mocambique -AllAfrica.com/ Africa /Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique -June 10, 2005: -- The provincial Transport and Communications Directorate in the northern Maozambican province of Nampula has accused the local traffic police of promoting corruption and lack of discipline in passenger and cargo road transport, reports Friday's issue of the Maputo daily "Noticias"... The provincial director, Baptista Rodrigues, said that if the traffic police does not change its attitude, all the efforts of his department to bring order to the Nampula roads will go to waste... All attempts by "Noticias" to obtain comment from the traffic police were fruitless. The commander was on leave, and the director of operations, who gave his name only as Luis, said he was not authorised to speak to the press...
