--- Eduard Nikolaev edged closer to his second Dakar Rally title by taking his second consecutive stage win and increasing his lead to nearly 20 minutes... The 2013 champion took over first place from Dmitry Sotnikov following Thursday's stage, and will kick off the final day with a 17m09s advantage, having beaten his Kamaz teammate by 11 minutes on Friday... Nikolaev narrowly edged out Federico Villagra for the stage win, the local driver cementing his fourth place behind defending champion and fellow Iveco driver Gerard De Rooy...

When the race moved to South America in 2009, many worried it would lose its rigors, altering the character of what was branded the toughest motorsports endurance event in the world, with Bike, Quad, Auto, and Truck Classes. But there was nothing to worry about -- the first five editions in Argentina and Chile gained notoriety, and this year's event was no less exciting...
