"GREEN" NEWS * USA - Trucks Reduce Emissions by 83%

Truck stop electrification is boosting fuel efficiency and minimizing dependence on foreign oil from idling trucks

USA -Clean Technica, by Sarah Lozanova -May 15th, 2008: -- ... An impressive 83% net emissions reduction is achieved after taking into account the electricity required to power these units. Because most electricity is generated using domestic energy supplies, energy dollars stay closer to home. Air quality is improved for communities near truck stops as fewer trucks idle... Trucking companies enjoy lower fuel costs and less wear and tear on engines. Driver comfort is increased by reducing the noise, pollution and vibration from the idling trucks, while offering more entertainment and communication options... There are 1.3 million long-haul diesel trucks with sleeper cabs in the United States, with most drivers averaging over 100,000 miles annually...

Idling Reduction Devices * USA - Minnesota bill offers incentive to install they

Minn,USA -Land Line Magazine (Grain Valley,MO) -March 21, 2007: -- A bill in the Minnesota House is intended to minimize the need for truck drivers to idle their trucks... Sponsored by Rep. Melissa Hortman, DFL-Brooklyn Park, the bill would establish a grant program for idling reduction technology purchases. The state could award grants to eligible applicants for up to 50 percent of the purchase and installation costs for one or more qualifying idling reduction devices...

Idle Rumors * USA - Institute ID's anti-idling areas

Alexandria,Va,USA -Today's Trucking (CAN) -5 Feb 2007: -- Did you know that if you’re caught idling for more than 15 minutes in Salt Lake City, Utah, you can be sent to jail for up to six months? And that’s the first time they catch you? A first offence in Colorado can lead to a year in the pen... Of course Salt Lake’s rules might be a bit extreme... That’s also why the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has published yet another version of its Idling Regulations Compendium, which identifies 34 American locations where idling is either restricted or prohibited... While anti-idling bylaws are also appearing in Canadian municipalities, word has it that they’re not being too harshly enforced. Yet... However, a few of the municipalities with some form of anti-idling laws include: Vaughn, Ont.; Yellowknife; Vancouver; Guelph, Ont.; Kingston, Ont; London, Ont; Windsor, Ont. and Halifax...
