Hanover,Germany -HGV UK -September 23, 2010: -- Mercedes-Benz has once again lifted the International Truck of the Year title, after its new Atego beat off competitors to win the prestigious award... The new Atego range – which, for the first time, includes a factory-built diesel-electric hybrid version, polled 127 points from the judging panel of top industry journalists, representing 23 European countries. Jury members were particularly impressed by the new Atego’s comprehensive list of standard equipment, and by the presence in the range of a clean, ‘green’ hybrid drive variant... The new Mercedes-Benz Atego range includes trucks from 7.5 to 16 tonnes gvw. All versions feature a smart new exterior, with styling reminiscent of the premium long- haul Actros tractor unit range... * Chinese truck makers ...they're 'there'...

(Photo from roadtransport)
Hanover,Germany -BigLorryBlog -September 26, 2010: ...Two 'new generation' cabbed CAMC trucks... The white tipper is a CAMC H08 which comes with a choice of (I assume) locally-built Hino P11 10.5-litre engine certified to Euro-2 or Euro-3 pushing out around 350-360hp... There's also the option of a Cummins ISMe, .fitted in the silver H08 6x4 tractor rated at 420hp and with a ZF box, that's got to be a 16-speed Ecosplit... There's also the same Hino engine option plus one from Mitsubishi and a Cummins ISLe too. I find the cabs attractive... The question is: Do the Chinese have what it takes (or indeed want) to go head-to-head with European manufacturers over here? One Chinese truck that I think COULD make it in Europe...

* China / Italy - The little Iveco Leoncino

Hanover,Germany -BigLorryBlog -September 26, 2010: ... The little Iveco Leoncino, is the name used by Iveco Italian constituent part 'OM' ... It's built by Naveco--one of the many joint venture companies has in China and features this attractive locally-designed and developed 1.935mm wide three-man cab on a six-tonner chassis. There's also a 3.5-tonne version with a narrower 1.635mm cabin and plans to build a 7.5-tonner too. The truck is for export only (not Europe) so Brazil, India, Russia, China and especially Africa where it will go head-to-head with Jap and Korean products... It's powered by the old 3.0-litre Sofim/Daily engine rated at 125hp and certified at Euro-3 with a six-speed box behind it... Isuzu, Toyota, Renault/Nissan and Fuso/Mitsubishi/Mercedes should keep an eye on the Leoncino, if Iveco does change its mind and offer it in Europe the feathers could really fly in the light middleweight sector!... * World truck market seen growing over 50 pct by 2015

Hanover,Germany -Reuters -Sep 20, 2010: -- The global market for commercial trucks will grow by more than half by 2015, a senior executive at Daimler, the world's largest lorry manufacturer said on Monday... Ahead of a key industry trade fair this week, Daimler Trucks chief Andreas Renschler said he expects volumes of medium and heavy trucks that weigh six tonnes or more to expand to roughly 3 million units over the coming five years... He did not immediately specify where the growth would stem from, but most industry experts believe demand from emerging markets like China, India, Russia and Brazil will outstrip that in developed economies such as the United States and Western Europe... The IAA truck fair begins this week in Hanover, where the industry is expected to celebrate an end to a severe slump that began in the fourth quarter of 2008 and stretched all the way into the second quarter of this year... Renschler told Reuters last week that he expects the current upward trend to continue in all key markets next year... The overall commercial vehicles market includes the segment of delivery vans and transporters, which also closely tracks the economic cycle, as well as the segment of city buses and travel coaches...

* Germany - MAN Concept S claims 25% CO2 reduction

Hanover.Germany -Road Transport (UK), by George Barrow -13 September 2010: -- MAN will unveil a new aerodynamic concept vehicle at the IAA 2010 Show in Hannover, which the company claims will reduce CO2 emissions by 25%... The MAN Concept S consists of a streamlined semitrailer tractor that has been honed in a wind tunnel to deliver a low wind resistance and, when coupled to a similarly modified trailer, can consume as much as 25% less fuel than a regular 40-tonne semitrailer... However, its radical trailer design will mean that space is compromised, and as such MAN hopes the design concept will spark further debate on statutory length restrictions as the company sees this as a limiting factor in realising the potential of aerodynamic design... TRUCKMAKERS' WORLDWIDE SHOW * Germany

The Hannover IAA Show 2008 ...welcome Mercedes ... !!!

Hanover,Germany -First news from Biglorryblog (UK) -24 Sept 2008: -- ... Zetros!... the Mercedes-Benz pre-show evening bunfight. A new 4x4 heavy duty off-road truck called the Zetros... And here it is, an 1833, so that's an 18-tonner with a 330hp engine, which suggests it's the 7.2-litre inline six rather than the vee-six. The three-man cab looks as if it's been put together using various bits from the Merc parts bin too...And here's another surprise ... a hybrid Axor tractor - one of no fewer than 11 'green truck/alternative fuel/hybrid vehicles' on show... The diesel-electric driveline could save weight and fuel and provide an extra boost of power to the diesel engine whilst hill climbing or pulling away from lights. The diesel-electric option also provides the potential to downsize on the diesel engine too...Just to prove Daimler's a global truck maker it had plenty of its brands on display including this rather smart looking Mitsubishi Fuso cabover 6x4 tractor which goes by the modest name of 'Super Great'...Freightliner M2e Hybrid is ready for the North American low-emission market...
While Hybrid Canters have already started in-service trials in the UK and mainland Europe... Nothing 'hybrid' about this mother - a double-tough Freightliner Coronado long-haul tractor with all the necessary whistles and bells for the discerning US owner-driver... Yet another hybrid--this time based on an Econic low-cab refuse truck...
