Ireland -Irish Truck News -10 May 2013: -- Reducing fuel consumption by 1,000 litres per year will save an operator €1,100 (assuming a price of €1.10 per litre, excluding VAT), and save 2.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year... SAFED training involves in-cab driver tuition, aiming to help businesses reduce fuel and maintenance costs, reduce CO2 emissions and improve safety through enhanced driving techniques, increased driver awareness, vehicle control and fuel economy...

* Ireland - Call to reduce 13.5% VAT rate

Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -November 13, 2009: -- The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) has called on the Government to reduce the 13.5% per cent VAT on vehicle repairs and servicing... SIMI says the current 13.5% VAT rate on repairs and servicing has helped enormously in the fight to win back work from the black economy. However, the level of activity outside the VAT net is increasing... The 13.5% rate of VAT on repairs and servicing must be retained, according to the Society...


* Ireland - Four haulage operators ordered to surrender licences

Dublin,Ireland -HGV Ireland -November 10, 2009: -- Four licensed haulage operators have been ordered by the Department of Transport to surrender their haulage licenses of face Garda action... Transport Minister, Noel Dempsey, has confirmed that four operators have been order to surrender their licences... The Minister has confirmed that four operators have been contacted under new rules, which came into force in September... “If they haven’t handed up their licence within another week or so, then the gardaí will be taking action against them,” the Minister commented... * Northern Ireland - O-licensing in

Belfast,North Ireland -HGV Ireland -November 12, 2009: -- Improved road safety and fairer competition in Northern Ireland took a step closer to realisation on Tuesday when the Goods Vehicle (Operator Licensing) Bill passed the Consideration stage... The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has led the campaign to bring O-Licensing to Northern Ireland and eagerly anticipates the Royal Assent of the Bill, which is expected in mid-December... The FTA played host to Minister for the Environment, Edwin Poots, when he announced plans to introduce legislation covering O-licensing for Northern Ireland’s commercial road transport industry at the leading trade body’s Transport Manager seminar last month...


* UK - New HGV driving licence proposals

London,UK -HGV UK -November 13, 2009: -- Proposals to improve skills and safety drivers of lorries and buses and new drivers have been published by the Department for Transport (DfT) in conjunction with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)... The measures are contained in a consultation on the implementation of new European requirements on driver testing, training, examination and licensing which come into force in 2013... At present, drivers of medium-sized and large buses and lorries need to renew their licences every five years once they reach the age of 45. Over-45s also need to demonstrate their fitness to drive through a full medical report... From 2013, under-45s who drive these vehicles will also need to confirm medical fitness and renew their licence every five years. Dublin,Ireland -HGV -23 Aug 2009: -- Irish Global Logistics, the Dublin based International Freight Forwarder, has signed two exclusive deals with major UK Logistics operators... The deals, with S & J European Haulage of Melton Mowbray and Keith Perry International Transport from Colnbrook, represent the latest in a number of partnerships the Irish forwarder has sealed... The new operation involves Irish Global loading trailers for each UK depot each night from its modern 40,000 square foot distribution complex near to Dublin Airport to depart on the Dublin to Holyhead service at 9pm... TRUCKING INDUSTRY * Ireland - McBurney Transport chooses Volvo

Ballymena,Co. Donegal, Ireland -HGV -10 July 2009: -- McBurney Transport, one of Northern Ireland's largest independently owned transport operators, has placed an order with Volvo Dealer, Dennison Commercials of Ballyclare for 50 FH-460 tractor units... As part of McBurney's drive to reduce the environmental impact of its fleet, all the trucks comply with the latest Euro 5 emission specification and are equipped with Dynafleet, Volvo's telematics system, and their fuel efficient I-Shift automated transmission... In addition to the 13-litre powered tractor units, the company also ordered an FH16-700. This flagship vehicle, which is also Euro 5 compliant, joins a long line of special high specification Volvo trucks operated by the Ballymena company...


* Licensing rules need overhaul - IRHA claims

Dublin,Ireland -HGV -10 July 2009: -- The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has called on the Department of Transport to tighten up rules that make it virtually impossible for a licensed haulage company to have its licence revoked... IRHA president, Vincent Caulfield, believes haulage companies that flout the law remain on the road because the Department of Transport can do little to revoke their licenses because of constitutional issues... "When we met the Transport Minister, Noel Dempsey to discuss this matter he said that to revoke a licence could be a breach of the Constitution because it would harm that person's ability to earn a living"...


* UK - VOSA reported more than 8,000 Irish hauliers last year

Bristol,UK -HGV -10 July 2009: -- The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has reported over 8,000 incidences of Irish hauliers breaking the law in the UK in the past 12 months... Offences included breaches of driving hours, driving an overloaded vehicle and failing a roadworthiness check, according to the Department of Transport... The Department also confirmed this week that another 6,250 offences were logged on the Gardai's Pulse system last year with several haulage companies having "multiple road transport offences detected"... A spokesperson for the Department could not say how many haulage licences were revoked last year and admitted that the legislation governing the revocation of road a haulage licence was currently under review.

TRUCKING NEWS * Ireland - Hauliers vs. VOSA (UK)

* Irish haulier questions accuracy of VOSA statistics

Dublin,Ireland -HGV -24 May 2009: -- A leading Irish haulage company has questioned the accuracy of statistics gathered by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) in the UK with regard to Irish operators... Last week HGV Ireland.com reported that more than three out of 10 Irish HGVs inspected in the UK, failed roadworthiness checks, in the year to the end of April, according to preliminary statistics produced by VOSA... On foot of this article, a leading haulier, who did not want to be named, contacted HGV Ireland.com and called into question the accuracy of the VOSA statistics and pointed to two instances in which two of his vehicles fell fowl of the law in the UK... * AWARD: Reynolds Logistics lands European silver

Dublin,Ireland -HGV -29 May 2009: -- One of Ireland's leading haulage companies and Fleet Transport Haulier of the Year 2008, has received a Silver medal in the inaugural European Transport Company of the Year 2009 awards... Reynolds Logistics, petro-chemical distribution specialists were up against the "best of the best"' from 14 countries across Europe... Reynolds Logistics came a close second to eventual winners Van Maanen from The Netherlands at the finals in Amsterdam on May 7...

* Reynolds logistics seeks permission to run MEVs

Dublin,Ireeland -HGV -21 May 2009: -- A leading Irish haulage company has made an application to Irish authorities with a view to running its own version of longer, heavier vehicles (LGVs)... Well known bulk fuels hauylier, Reynolds Logistics is seeking permission to run a 10 metre Euro-5 Mercedes-Benz rigid pulling a 13.6 metre semi-trailer, interlinked by a two-axle dolly... The company has applied to run three MEVs (more efficient vehicles) on a set route between Dublin Port and Dublin airport, via the port tunnel...
