* Virginia - Federal agents raid trucking company for allegedly forcing drivers to falsify logbooks


Mt. Crawford,VA,USA -Fleet Owner, by Deborah Whistler -Feb. 21, 2013: -- As a result of an ongoing investigation since 2006, federal agents raided Beam Brothers Trucking, of Mt. Crawford, VA, on charges of forcing drivers to falsify logbooks... According to WHSV News, federal warrants show workers reported their supervisors forced them to lie about the hours they worked in order to get paid... Agents said more than seven witnesses complained about having to falsify their logbooks...  One worker reported having to drive from Knoxville, TN, to Dallas, TX, for Beam Brothers and since that worker couldn’t make the trip in less than 11 hours, he said management made him lie about his hours worked... Some of the workers said they were told to destroy their logbooks at the end of their routes and fill out new ones... Federal agents raided the trucking company on Feb. 12 based on this evidence...

Investigation * USA - Truckers Assoc. Objects To CBS4

"Most truckers who falsify their logs feel if you don't fudge on your logbook, you'll starve to death"

Denver,CO,USA -CBS4, by Rick Sallinger -19 Feb 2008: -- The association that represents Colorado trucking companies is calling a CBS4 investigation on logbook cheating "outrageous" ... (see below "Truckers Falsifying Logbooks * USA - CBS4 (Denver)... truckers' logbooks ... 19/02/08") It claims the practice of falsifying the number of hours in service only involves a small number of drivers. The investigation found that despite the association's claims, lying on log books is common... The Colorado Motor Carriers Association insists logbook cheating is not widespread... "I think it does a disservice to cast the net that is saying this is a large number, because it isn't," Greg Fulton with CMCA said. Fulton said only a very small number of drivers cheat on their logs and the companies do not condone it... Those caught cheating face a fine, are taken out of service, and their company can be penalized and fire them...

Truckers Falsifying Logbooks * USA - CBS4 (Denver) Finds

A CBS4 investigation has found that truckers blatantly falsify their service logs and stay on the road longer than they're allowed

Denver,CO,USA -AP/CBS 4 DENVER -18 February 2008: -- ... Five-thousand people a year are killed in accidents involving trucks... Federal rules require the drivers to record their hours in logbooks, but cheating is so common they are often referred to as comic books... Early on Aug. 15, 2007, Denver trucker Peter Baumann's run came to a deadly end just short of his destination in Grand Junction. Baumann hit an Interstate 70 overpass, killing him and his girlfriend... Grand Junction police said his logbook to record his driving hours appeared to have been falsified. The trucking company he drove for insists they were not... CBS4 found such cheating by truckers is a common practice... The Colorado Motor Carriers Association said the vast majority of truckers do not falsify their logs. They say evidence of that are improved safety figures... Last year the Colorado State Patrol found more than 13,000 violations of truckers' hours and more than 1,000 instances of falsified logbooks...
