INFRASTRUCTURES * USA: TRUCKS ONLY LANES

* Georgia - Proposes truck-only lanes on 40-mile stretch along Interstate 75

-- The state of Georgia, in an unprecedented move, is planning to build two northbound truck-only lanes paralleling a heavily travelled 40-mile stretch along Interstate 75 from Macon to McDonough, about 30 miles south of Atlanta... The law calls for a six-cents-a-gallon increase in the state fuels tax and a series of new user fees, including a surcharge on large trucks registered with the state. No tolls are contemplated to pay for the proposed corridor.. No state has pulled off a project of this magnitude, according to Robert Poole, cofounder of The Reason Foundation, a think tank. Truck-only lanes do exist, but they are comprised of so-called climbing lanes whose grades are too steep for heavy-duty trucks to safely maneuver...

Truck-Only Lanes * USA - Wyoming Considers Tolls on I-80

Wyoming,USA -the Associated Press/Transport Topics -15 June 2009: -- A Wyoming state legislative committee said that if part of Interstate 80 in the state becomes a toll road, they would prefer charging trucks only... Last year, a consultant suggested further study of tolling all traffic on I-80 or tolling trucks only, a scenario in which trucks would get their own designated lanes... State Sen. Mike Von Flatern (R), said that while the national trucking industry opposes new tolls on existing highways, truckers could save money by using a toll road that is safer and shut down less often...
