FUEL THEFTS * Canada - Diesel still targeted by fuel filchers

Edmonton, AB,Canada -Today's Trucking -22 Jan 2009: -- Fuel prices may have dropped dramatically in the last few months, but not entirely enough for thieves, it seems... Southern Alberta police report an uptick in fuel thefts at remote, unmanned cardlock locations around Edmonton and Calgary... Moreover, thieves are breaking into transport trucks to steal their fuel cards for the pumps, which they'll siphon fuel from and put it into storage tanks... Police say almost every cardlock in Edmonton has been hit. Fuel can sell for as low as half the pump price on the street. Some thieves resell the fuel cards...

Renton,Wash,USA -Truck News (CAN) -1 Jan 2009: -- Potential fuel thieves will be left with a sour taste in their mouths now that PACCAR Parts has introduced the ACRAFIT anti-siphon device for heavy-duty trucks... Officials say the device is designed for maximum security, easy installation and rapid fuelling. The device is installed in the neck of the fuel tank where it’s narrow openings (no larger than a quarter inch) keeps thieves from reaching the diesel fuel with large-diameter siphon tubes.The ACRAFIT anti-siphon line includes various sizes to fit all major OEM fuel tank applications and comes with a 10-year unlimited mileage warranty, according to company officials...

Disappearance of more than 55,000 liters of diesel fuel from underground storage tanks in and around Hamilton this past weekend

Hamilton,ONT,CAN -CHCH television news/ Today's Trucking -30 July 2008: -- Following the disappearance, it's beginning to look like an organized theft ring is operating in the area... Several thefts in the area, at least two of which were caught on security cameras. In both cases, two trucks pulling 53-ft van trailers -- possibly reefers -- pulled up and parked over top of under ground fuel storage tanks. While not actually seen on camera, it's assumed that the vans were equipped with liquid pumps and storage tanks large enough to accommodate a significant amount of fuel... FUEL THEFTS * USA - Arizona trucking companies say big rig fuel thefts rising

Gas thieves target big rigs

Phoenix,AZ,USA -Associated Press/ABC15 (KNXV-TV) -24 June 2008: -- As fuel prices soar, thieves are targeting tractor-trailer trucks and their massive gas tanks. Trucking companies in Arizona say thieves sometimes use high-pressure pumps to drain the large tanks quickly while truckers sleep. In some cases, other truckers are stealing fuel. Dave Williams, vice president of equipment and maintenance for Phoenix-based Knight Transportation, says fuel thefts have become a frustrating problem for the industry. Knight and Phoenix-based Swift Transportation say they are not taking theft lightly. The companies wouldn't talk about security precautions except to say they're cracking down...
