* UK - CAP: on the implications of Euro-6

London,EN,UK -Commercial Vehicle, by James Clark/Tim Cattlin -9 March 2012:  --  It’s possibly stating the obvious to those close to all things transport-related, but the introduction of Euro-6 legislation for all new trucks registered from January 2014 is likely to have a significant effect on values realised for Euro-4 and particularly Euro-5 used trucks as we lead up to the new rules becoming law - and indeed afterwards...  Indications from manufacturers suggest that, due to the additional cooling required, cab redesigns will be necessitated, and that the transactional price increase for a new vehicle could run into five figures. This, coupled with the predicted increase in fuel consumption, makes a new Euro-6 vehicle a ‘challenging’ proposition to the operator...  Given that the new truck market has been in the doldrums since 2008/2009, availability of late used Euro-5 vehicles was always going to be restricted. These uncertain economic times have led to many operators postponing the replacement of vehicles - but as time goes on, they will have to ‘bite the bullet’ and consider freshening up their fleets...

* Truck Maker Picks Alfdex

Helsingborg,Sweden -Diesel Progress (USA) -Jan 2012: -- Alfdex AB, the joint venture between Alfa Laval and Concentric – has signed an exclusive supplier agreement with what it calls one of the world’s largest producers of heavy trucks. The agreement calls for Alfdex to supply its oil mist separators with a total estimated value of at least approximately $75 million over the next five years. The truck maker’s identity has not been released...  The deal covers trucks manufactured in the US, Europe and Japan and is valid until 2017. Alfdex said it will supply its new generation of oil mist separators which have been developed to meet Euro-6 legislation...  The contract states that all trucks with in-house manufactured engines will be equipped with the Alfdex oil mist separator used for active cleaning of crankcase gases. The Alfdex separator uses centrifugal separation to remove oil droplets and soot so that only clean gases are emitted to the environment...

Shiply calls itself an eBay for haulage companies

London,EN,UK -Venture Beat, by Ciara Byrne -August 20, 2010: ... Essentially, it’s a marketplace where users list items they want to move and haulage companies with spare capacity offer quotes. Shiply just launched in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and France. The company already had a presence in Germany as well as in its home base of the UK... Shiply specializes in longer journeys within and between European countries... Shiply offers two main advantages: price and CO2 reductions. Participating haulage companies transport Shiply deliveries in trucks that are already scheduled to travel on the given route. So they can afford to offer a reduction of up to 75% on the shipping cost of each new item. Haulage companies pay a transaction-based fee, which varies between 3.9% and 9.9% depending on the size of the quote. Shiply is also an eBay delivery partner in the UK... 25% of the haulage trucks on British roads run empty because they are on return trips... According to the web site, Shiply has 160,000 registered users, 16,500 registered haulage companies and receives 1,200 quote requests per day. Shiply was founded in Manchester in June 2008 and is self-funded... Shiply’s main competitor is the US-based company UShip, which expanded into Europe late last year with a German site... * UK - Retrofit system cuts NOx on older engines

London,UK -Fleet Owner -Aug 24, 2010: -- Johnson Matthey has developed a four-way emissions control technology for on-road vehicles to cut NOx, carbon dioxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and particulate matter. The SCRT System has been verified by the EPA, according to the company... The system is applicable to 1994-2002 model-year engines, and reduces NOx emissions by 70% and cuts CO, HC and PM emissions by more than 90%, the company said... Johnson Matthey created the system by combining a urea-based SCR system and a CRT particulate filter... Lassen expects the SCRT system to gain CARB approval later this year or early in 2011. Approval for use on model year 2003-2006 engines is expected later this year... The company is running more than 50 test units in California and Texas, with results showing NOx emissions reductions as much as 84%. Test units include both EGR and non-EGR engines... At the special event – held at the Cannon House Office Building and entitled “Climate, Energy & the Environment: The Role of Diesel” – lawmakers from both sides of the aisle mingled with representatives from Caterpillar, John Deere, Eaton, Cummins, Volkswagen, Daimler, Bosch, Volvo Powertrain and others to review the latest advances in diesel technology...
