* Trucks carrying Turkish exports blocked at Russian border
-- Around 1,250 trucks carrying Turkish exports have been blocked from entering Russia and are stranded at border posts awaiting clearance... Six days after NATO-member Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet in the first known incident of its kind since the Cold War, calls for calm have gone largely unheeded. Ankara refuses to back down and Russia responds with sanctions... Trucks are stranded in Ukraine and Georgia for checks, which Sener says now are more thorough than before and that the economic cost of the delay since last Wednesday is around $50,000 to $60,000. Furthermore, a total of 800 containers are also waiting for clearance in the Turkish Black Sea port of Samsun and at the Russian port of Novorossiysk... Around 100 trucks awaiting transit passage at the Russian border are now seeking alternative routes. "Azerbaijan has allowed entry and these trucks will go to Central Asia through this route, which is much more costly" ... Turkey mainly sells food, agricultural products and textiles to Moscow and is also one of the most popular holiday destinations for Russians. Around 50 percent of Turkey's exports into Russia, which totaled $6 billion last year, go by land...

BORDER TROUBLES * Cambodia - Border snarl up as Cambodians demand truck payment

Poi Pet,Cambodia -The Nation/Khmerization -September 25, 2009: -- With no explanation, Cambodian customs officials in Poi Pet have stopped allowing Thai trucks to pass beyond their boundary by just presenting a copy of the truck registration book... Customs officials there yesterday demanded that the drivers present the original truck registration book and submit a security sum of US$5,000 (Bt167,750) each... Although the procedures are in line with customs regulations, they have long been relaxed... For years, trucks from Thai soil could move past the Poi Pet checkpoint by just presenting a copy of the truck registration book... When the procedures suddenly changed, more than 150 trucks got stuck in front of the Baan Klong Luek permanent checkpoint in Sa Kaeo's Aranyaprathet district on the Thai side... However, at 12.30pm, Cambodian customs officials agreed to let the trucks pass the Poi Pet checkpoint with just a copy of the truckregistration book for one day only...

BORDER TROUBLES * Canada / USA - Atlantic truckers frustrated by Homeland Security secretary

Dieppe,NB,Canada -CBC News -April 22, 2009: -- The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association is frustrated with its attempts to lobby the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to ease the crippling costs of border administration fees... Peter Nelson, executive director of the association, said it's costing too much for truckers in the region to cross the American border, and he spent two days in Washington pleading his case... Nelson said the U.S. government maintains that Canada should assume the administrative costs of managing the border instead of U.S. taxpayers... He said it cost the Canadian trucking industry about a $100 million a year back then, but that has now risen to about a billion dollars a year...
