MAIN TRUCKMAKERS * USA: On against antitrust class action

* Delaware - Truck makers urge federal judge not to certify antitrust class action petition 
-- Several truck makers are urging a federal judge in Delaware to deny class certification of an antitrust lawsuit filed by trucking companies that purchased Class 8 trucks equipped with Eaton transmissions... The plaintiffs allege that several Class 8 truck makers entered into exclusive contracts with Eaton Corp., the largest supplier of Class 8 truck transmissions, in exchange for lucrative rebates and incentives. However, the plaintiffs claim the rebates and incentives offered to the truck makers were not shared or passed through to the purchasers of the trucks... The plaintiffs say the exclusive agreements limited their choice of transmissions and eliminated a competitive check on pricing... The defendants in the lawsuit include: Eaton Corp, Daimler Trucks North America, Freightliner, Navistar International, International Truck and Engine, Paccar, Kenworth, Peterbilt Motors, Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks... The lawsuit was filed by Mark Wallach, who was the Chapter 7 trustee for Performance Transportation Services, which includes several other subsidiaries...“As a result of these purchases, (Performance Transportation Services) sustained injury and was damaged by reason of the antitrust violations alleged in this complaint,” the court documents states... The lawsuit stems from a suit originally filed by ZF Meritor, a joint merger of ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Meritor Inc., against Eaton in 2010 for alleged anticompetitive practices in the heavy-duty truck transmission market. Assemblyman Joseph R. Lentol's Dream to Stop Illegal Truck Traffic Soon to be a Reality

New York,NY,USA -Cooper Park Neighborhood Association, by Assemblyman Joseph R. Lentol -8 March 2008: -- At a recent meeting at the Traffic Management Center for the New York Department of Transportation Assemblyman Lentol learned the results of the first phase of testing for a program that he developed to fight truck traffic... The program includes two new kinds of technology. The first is a special camera which can identify and count the numbers of trucks that pass by on a designated street. Once problem areas have been identified, the second piece of technology can be installed. This piece is called a weight in motion sensor and is very similar to a red light camera. It involves a weight sensor embedded in the ground which would alert a camera every time a truck illegally uses the road. A photograph would be taken of the license plate and a summons sent to the truck driver... The first phase of the pilot is the cameras used to count trucks and was completed recently. These cameras can be used to identify problem areas where more enforcement is needed and where potentially the weight in motion sensor would later be installed... The weight in motion part of the pilot program will be running throughout the summer. If that is successful, the Department of Transportation will be looking at expanding the program throughout the city...
