Washington,DC,USA -Land Line -26 April 2013: -- Drivers and training schools are being cautioned against a scheme aimed at defrauding both CDL drivers and training schools attempting to help students find jobs... The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a release earlier this month outlining the scam... A caller represents himself or herself as being a recruiter for a known and legitimate motor carrier to a representative of a truck driving school or driver. The caller has an air of urgency and “must hire” several CDL holders immediately or as soon as a student graduates from driver training and receives his or her CDL. The fraudster is also known to solicit truck driving school instructors to provide his or her callback number to trainees or recent graduates of truck driving schools... When a driver seeking employment calls the “recruiter,” he or she is offered an immediate position with pay and benefits higher than industry the norm for a new driver and is often told there will be a “waiver” for previous criminal or DUI convictions older than three to five years... The caller then tells the driver candidate he or she must prove financial solvency to the carrier by sending a wire transfer of $350 or more to the “recruiter” ... FMCSA recommends drivers and training schools call the publicly listed telephone number of the motor carrier offering employment and verify the recruiter is a duly authorized representative of the carrier...

* New Jersey - New technology uncovers fraudulent CDLs, other IDs 

Trenton,NJ,USA -Land Line, by Charlie Morasch -13 Feb 2013: -- Investigators in New Jersey have suspended hundreds of driver’s licenses and commercial driver’s licenses after facial recognition software showed multiple IDs linked to the same faces... Prosecutors announced Tuesday, Feb. 12, that they had brought charges against 38 individuals tied to the investigation, including a commercial bus driver who used a dead man’s identity to get his CDL and a tanker hauler who used two false identities for CDLs... Prosecutors are examining 669 potential cases in which they may bring charges, including 60 tied to CDLs, the release states... New Jersey’s license investigation examined all 19 million identities listed in its photo record database to find duplicative photos and identities. The state found 600,000 matches attributed to administrative errors and customer fraud, and suspended 1,800 licenses until customers could re-verify their identities... The investigation has also uncovered 20 to 40 potential fraudulent unemployment cases, 23 fraud cases investigated by the New Jersey Department of Human Services, three potential Medicaid fraud cases, eight fraudulent U.S. passports, five criminal arrests by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and four criminal fraud suspects identified by the Social Security Administration in connection with over $200,000 in suspected fraud... New Jersey now performs a nightly scrub of all new photos submitted at its 39 agencies...

Multiple CDLs * USA - New York arrests 51 drivers for

New York,NY,USA -Land Line, by Charlie Morasch -September 13, 2011:  --  Drivers like David Larry, aka Lawrence Lipkin, and Muhammad Tariq, aka Tariq Hussain, are among hundreds of individuals recently arrested for holding multiple commercial drivers’ licenses under different identities...  The investigation, which seems to reveal a major gap in licensing procedures, is being publicized as a major coup for law enforcement and immigration authorities in New York...  New York State recently arrested 51 commercial drivers after facial recognition software identified dozens of truck and bus drivers who held multiple commercial drivers licenses...  New York reviewed records of 600,000 CDL holders in the state by using facial recognition software, which allegedly recognized the same faces for drivers who held at least two CDLs under different identities...  In addition to the 51, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in news release from his office that more than 70 other CDL drivers have been arrested for having multiple CDLS this year. Cuomo reported that 800 drivers have been arrested for having two or more licenses under different aliases since February 2010...

Disabled Truckers * USA - Lying To Keep Licenses

Medically unfit truck drivers are lying to keep their trucks on the road, which can put all drivers safety at risk on the road

According to the Governmental Accountability Office, Texas has 819,000 drivers with active commercial drivers licenses, with 22,600 receiving full federal disability benefits... Those are drivers that are getting behind the wheel with medical disabilities such as diabetes, loss of limb or sleep apnea... The study concludes, that it's easy for truckers to fake a medical certificate and that there's almost no incentive to get a real one. Making it easy for those who have an unnoticeable disability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License... There is no database or central repository allowing state inspectors to verify the legitimacy of a medical certificate... Trooper Wayne Williams says there is no way to prevent people from lying to get a CDL...

Missouri Lawmaker * USA - Pleads guilty to trucker visa fraud

A Missouri state lawmaker pleaded guilty on Thursday to illegally obtaining work visas for hundreds of New Zealand immigrants ...

MO,USA -Land Line Magazine, by Sandi Soendker & Reed Black -Aug. 10, 2007: -- ... so they could drive for trucking companies in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas... First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Reap announced Friday that state Rep. Nathan Cooper, R-Cape Girardeau, now faces up to 15 years in prison and $500,000 in fines... Sentencing has been set for Oct. 19, 2007, in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri... According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in St. Louis, Cooper fraudulently obtained H2B temporary visas for a number of trucking companies that were his clients. Cooper is an immigration attorney as well as state lawmaker... The Southeast Missourian newspaper reported that Pullen Brothers Inc. of Sikeston, MO, was one of the companies that got drivers through Cooper...

Commercial License Fraud * USA - "License" To Kill

Thousands of truckers are on the road illegally - And your safety is at stake

USA -Readers Digest -July 2007: -- In recent years, 32 states have reported cases of commercial license fraud, with busts ranging everywhere from Florida to Ohio to Colorado. A 2006 report from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) identified about 15,000 “suspect” license holders in 27 states, over a third of whom ultimately had their CDLs taken away or voluntarily gave them up... In Macon, Georgia, according to an investigative report by the Chicago Tribune, one truck-driving school paid private “third party” testers to falsify the exams of 623 students. When Georgia officials uncovered the racket and had all those students retake the test, only 142 qualified... According to safety advocates, there are probably tens of thousands of truckers on the road with sham licenses. It’s bad enough that we’re sharing the highways with these risky drivers. But there are huge homeland security concerns too. After all, some truckers who get phony licenses may wind up hauling deadly chemicals or other hazardous materials that could be used as terror weapons...
