U.S. trucking operators began increasing driver pay in waves in 2014 as freight demand rose, racking up double-digit percentage wage hikes by 2015... Whether driver pay increases accelerate more sharply or more moderately in 2016 depends on the route the U.S. economy takes. A economic uptick that generates more freight demand could put more pressure on carriers to raise paychecks — as well as shipper rates — to higher levels faster...
