Ann Arbor,Mich,USA -The Trucker News Services -1 Oct 2014: -- Over the past several years, Con-way Freight has been evaluating and implementing phased changes to its compensation program to reflect evolving market conditions and ensure competitive pay structures for drivers... Con-way Inc. said Tuesday it would implement enhancements to its compensation package for drivers at its less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier... These changes provide for increases in current pay rates while reducing the time it takes for drivers to reach top pay scale, according to Douglas W. Stotlar, president and CEO of Con-way Inc... The enhancements, which will take effect on Jan. 4, 2015, increase pay for Con-way Freight drivers system-wide while aligning all locations across the network to pay rates competitive for each geographic market... With respect to the change in progression to top scale, all locations will be aligned to a common schedule in which drivers will reach top scale at three years from date of hire. On Jan. 4, all eligible drivers will be adjusted to the applicable new pay rate commensurate with their service time...
* Arizona - Pay hike, rate increases help Swift keep drivers
Phoenix, AZ,USA -JOC, by William B. Cassidy - Sep 29, 2014: -- A big hike in truck driver pay seems to be paying off handsomely for Swift Transportation... The number of Swift trucks lacking drivers has dropped about 20 percent from the end of the second quarter, and line-haul truck utilization has improved more than 3 percent, the largest U.S. truckload carrier said. On Aug. 4, the Phoenix-based trucking company gave long-haul drivers the biggest pay increase in the carrier’s history, though it didn’t specify how much... The average annualized turnover rate at large truckload carriers rose to 92 percent in the first quarter — the latest quarter for which information is available — and has been stuck above 90 percent for nine straight quarters, according to the American Trucking Associations...
