* GPS set to be mandatory in LPG trucks

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India -The New Indian Express, by M S Vidyanandan -5th October 2014: --  The State Government will soon make GPS device mandatory for LPG trucks plying in the state. The scheme aims at better monitoring of the vehicles and thus reduce the risk of accidents, the officials said... Figures with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) say the state witnessed 13 major accidents involving LPG tanker lorries since 2006. At least 24 persons were killed in these incidents. The SDMA has sanctioned `24 lakh to the Motor Vehicles Department for the project implementation... MVD officials said only GPS-enabled vehicles would be allowed entry to the state once the project is launched... The last accident in the state involving an LPG tanker was at West Hill in Kozhikode on March 29 this year. And a goods autorickshaw driver was killed...
