Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Richard Read -Sep 5, 2013: -- Volvo Cars of North America has issued a recall for S60, S80, XC60, and XC70 vehicles from the 2014 model year. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, some of those vehicles suffer from an electrical problem that could result in a crash... The flaw affects the Central Electronic Module in models equipped with keyless ignition... Always-on windshield wipers would seem to constitute a fairly significant distraction for drivers. The more serious problem, however, would be malfunctioning turn signals and headlights, which could very easily cause a collision... Volvo will upgrade the software in the Central Electronic Module, free of charge...

Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Suzanne Kane -Sep 7, 2013: -- Honda is conducting a voluntary safety recall of certain 2013 Honda Odyssey minivans and Pilot SUVs for a piston problem that may cause the engine to stall... A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website puts the number of vehicles affected by the recall at 270... Documentation from Honda submitted to the NHTSA indicates that 150 two-wheel and four-wheel-drive Pilot SUVs are affected and 120 Odyssey minivans... According to NHTSA and Honda, during the manufacturing of the engine piston, the heat treatment process was not properly applied. This could result in the piston lacking sufficient hardness level, making it susceptible to premature wear... A worn piston could fail, resulting in engine stall, which increases crash risk... Honda said that it has not received any warranty claims or field reports related to this issue...
