* Washington - Paccar posts lower profit, cuts sales forecasts

McCormick and John Wallace -Jul 23, 2013: -- Truck maker Paccar Inc reported a lower quarterly profit on Tuesday and trimmed its full-year sales forecasts for North America and Europe, where freight carriers are postponing purchases of new vehicles... The company, which makes Peterbilt, Kenworth and DAF brand commercial trucks, reported a second-quarter profit of $291.6 million, or 82 cents a share, down from $297.2 million, or 83 cents a share, a year earlier... Revenue from truck and engine sales, as well as Paccar's in-house finance unit, fell 3.6 percent to $4.30 billion.The company said it now expects to sell 210,000 to 230,000 "Class 8" trucks - the biggest it makes - in North America this year, down from a previous forecast of 210,000 and 240,000.The company lowered its forecast for truck sales in Europe to a range of 210,000 to 230,000, down from a previous forecast of 210,000 to 235,000...
* Oregon - Unions end strike at Western Star plant in 

Portland,ORE,USA -Transport Topics -25 July 2013: -- Workers at Daimler Trucks North America’s Portland, Ore, plant that makes Western Star trucks have approved a contract, ending a three-week strike, the Oregonian newspaper reported... The Swan Island plant manufactures about 30 Western Star trucks a day... Members of machinists and painters unions began picketing the plant July 1 after employees voted to reject a proposed three-year contract that had been recommended by management and union leadership... Members of those unions approved new contracts, and employees represented by the Teamsters and the Service Employees International Union, who had been respecting strike lines, also approved the contract’s terms... Daimler Trucks North America spokesman David Giroux said the company considers the contract details to be confidential, but confirmed the strike was settled, adding that DTNA is pleased that operations have resumed...
* Michigan - Ford to develop hybrid trucks solo after Toyota tie-up ends

Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. ended their partnership to develop hybrid pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles after studying the feasibility of such a project for nearly two years, Ford said on Tuesday... Ford, maker of the top-selling F-150 pickup truck, will develop its own rear-wheel drive hybrid system for trucks and SUVs, which will be available by the end of the decade... The two automakers will continue to develop “next-generation” standards for on-board phone, navigation and entertainment systems, the US automaker said in a release...


* Louisiana - Pursues truck manufacturer's expansion

New Orleans,LOU,USA -The AP/The Miami Herald -24 July 2013: -- A Minnesota truck maker with a Chinese parent company plans a significant expansion, and Louisiana is among Southern states trying to win the new factory... Schwing America CEO, Brian Hazelton, tells he'd rather expand within his current area. But he says Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia are among Southern states courting the factory... Schwing America presently makes concrete pumper trucks. But parent Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group — which bought a majority stake in Schwing's German parent company last year — also makes excavators, loaders, dozers and cranes... Hazelton said XCMG sees Schwing as a bridge to making such vehicles in the United States... With the XCMG partnership, "there are significant opportunities for growth. It could be in the plant, or it could be elsewhere," Hazelton said...
