* Michigan - GM and Ford stocks end 2012 on high note. Automakers fare well, seeing double-digit percent increases 
Detroit,MICH,USA - The Detroit News, by Bryce G. Hoffman -January 1, 2013: -- Last year was a good year for General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. shareholders — provided they had the stomach for what proved to be a wild ride... GM's stock ended 2012 at $28.83 a share Monday, a gain of more than 42 percent over the $20.27 a share that ended 2011... Ford also fared far better than the average in 2012, closing at $12.95 a share. That was up more than 20 percent from its 2011 year-ending price of $10.76 a share... Together, the two stocks gained more than 30 percent last year. By comparison the Dow Jones industrial average gained just over 7 percent. The Standard and Poor's 500 gained almost 13.5 percent...


* Michigan - GM: Volt sales tripled in 2012 
Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -January 2, 2013: -- General Motors Co. said Wednesday that its 2012 sales of the plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt tripled from 2011... U.S. sales of the Volt for 2012 will top 23,000 for the year, said Michelle Malcho, a spokeswoman for the Detroit automaker... GM had sold 20,828 extended-range electric Volt cars through November. In 2011, it sold 7,671 Volt cars, below its forecast of 10,000 for its first full year of sales...


* Michigan - GM says it's first to reach 1 million vehicles at 30 mpg highway 
Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -January 3, 2013: -- General Motors Co. said Thursday it sold more than 1 million vehicles in 2012 with a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rating of at least 30 miles per gallon highway. The Detroit-based company said it was the first U.S. automaker to hit that threshold in the United States... GM has 13 2013 vehicles that are rated at 30 mpg highway or higher...


* Ohio - USA rising as production base for Honda -  N. America exports to outnumber Japan imports within years

Marysville, Ohio,USA -The Detroit News, by Christine Tierney -January 2, 2013: -- The assembly line ground to a halt at Honda Motor Co.'s plantthe afternoon of Dec. 5. Had just produced the 1 millionth Honda built in the United States for export... A Marysville worker then drove a silver Accord EX-L sedan in front of the crowd... One million exports over 25 years may not seem extraordinary for a company whose cumulative U.S. output exceeds 20 million vehicles since 1982. But the Tokyo-based automaker expects to reach an even bigger milestone in a couple of years, when its vehicle exports from North America — now numbering close to 100,000 a year — are expected to exceed its imports from Japan...


* Michigan - Ford to invest $773M in Metro Detroit plants in 2013, add jobs

Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -December 27, 2012: -- Ford Motor Co. is preparing for its next wave of products with investments in southeast Michigan that will total $773 million in 2013... The Dearborn automaker will modernize its Dearborn Stamping Plant with four new press lines for its next-generation F-Series trucks, due in 2014. It will retool its capacity-constrained Michigan Assembly Plant to increase the output of small cars... In addition, Ford is making significant investments at the Van Dyke Transmission Plant, Livonia Transmission Plant and Sterling Axle Plant... The investments are part of a nationwide $6.2 billion investment promise — which includes the addition of 12,000 new hourly jobs — Ford made to the United Auto Workers in 2011 when the last contract was signed. In all, Ford's 2013 investments will add 2,350 jobs in southeast Michigan...


* California - Suit alleges false mpg claims on Ford cars

Sacramento,CAL,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -December 27, 2012: -- A California-based law firm has filed a class-action lawsuit against Ford Motor Co., alleging the company has led a "false and misleading" marketing campaign for its 2013 C-Max and Fusion hybrid vehicles...   Law firm McCuneWright alleges fraud and negligent misrepresentation, among other things, by Ford in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of California. The suit seeks punitive damages, including reimbursement for the purchase price of Ford's new hybrid vehicles... The plaintiff in the suit is Richard Pitkin of Roseville, Calif., who purchased a C-Max Hybrid in October and says he averaged only 37 miles per gallon, lower than the Environmental Protection Agency rated 47 mpg... 


* California - Toyota settlement gets preliminary approval 

Sacramento,CAL,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News -December 28, 2012: -- A plaintiffs' attorney says a U.S. District Court judge in California has given preliminary approval to a $1 billion-plus settlement with Toyota Motor Corp. in cases involving unintended acceleration problems in its vehicles... Attorney Steve Berman says Judge James Selna gave swift initial approval Friday... Toyota has said the deal announced Wednesday will resolve hundreds of lawsuits from Toyota owners who said the value of their cars and trucks plummeted after a series of recalls stemming from claims that Toyota vehicles accelerated unintentionally... The judge will hold a fairness hearing on June 13 and consider granting final approval to the settlement...
