* Italy - Lamborghini to decide on SUV in coming months

Milan,Italy -Associated Press/The Detroit News -November 14, 2012: -- Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, says the automaker will decide in coming months whether to join other luxury brands and expand into all-terrain sports utility vehicles... Winkelmann said Wednesday that Lamborghini needs to consider the impact of higher SUV volumes on its facilities and where to invest its resources during an economic crisis... Lamborghini, owned by German carmaker Volkswagen, presented a concept SUV, the Urus, in April with an eye on a 2017 launch. If it went ahead, the carmaker expects to produce 3,000 SUVs a year, beyond the 2,000 super sports cars it already builds... Winkelmann said the SUV's natural markets would be North America, the Middle East and Asia as well as Britain, Germany and Russia... Lamborghini sales this year already have surpassed the 1,600 sold in 2011...



* Japan - Ghosn: Nissan considering Mexico for next North America plant 
Yokohama, Japan -Bloomberg News/The Detroit News, by Brendan Case -November 14, 2012: -- Nissan Motor Co., the second-largest Japanese automaker, will consider Mexico as well as the U.S. for a new North American plant as it seeks to meet increasing demand in both nations... Nissan, the largest automaker in Mexico, broke ground in July on a $2 billion factory in the central Mexican state of Aguascalientes, its third plant in the nation. Mexico's auto output and exports are on pace to reach record levels this year as foreign manufacturers including Nissan have announced $7.8 billion in Mexican investments in the last 24 months... Nissan, produced 583,334 vehicles in Mexico during the first 10 months of the year, 16 percent more than in the same period last year, according to data provided by the company. Nissan's production was the most by any automaker in Mexico, trailed by Volkswagen AG in second place with 520,262, according to the Mexican Automobile Industry Association...


* South Africa - BAW makes automotive
New Era,Springs,East Rand,Gauteng, SA -Truck and Bus-14 Nov 2012: ... The company in question is BAW South Africa, and it has been established by the Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company (BAIC), the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), and China Africa Motors (CAM)... BAIC, via its BAW subsidiary, has a 51% shareholding in the company; the two other shareholders share the balance... R196 million has been invested in BAW South Africa, which will employ 469 people. When one factors in suppliers and dealers, over 1 000 new jobs will be created... The manufacturing plant, located in New Era, Springs, will produce taxis on a semi knocked-down (SKD) basis but with a final line identical to that of completely knocked-down (CKD) manufacturing plant... There will soon be annual taxi replacement demand to the tune of 25 000 units in South Africa alone... BAW South Africa’s Springs factory – with an annual capacity of 9 600 vehicles – will be in its first phase of operations over the next three years. Thereafter, the plan is for BAW SA to move to full CKD manufacturing at far greater capacity levels...

* Japan - Toyota recalling 2.8M cars across the globe

Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -November 15, 2012: -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it is recalling 2.8 million cars worldwide, the latest in a string of massive recalls for the Japanese automaker... The recall includes 670,000 2004-09 Prius hybrids in the United States to replace a shaft in the steering system, if necessary. About 350,000 of these same cars also are being recalled to replace the water pump for the Prius hybrid's cooling system., along with 99 Toyota hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles known as the FCHV that have similar problems... There have been no crashes or injuries reported for the steering or water pump problems... Toyota said the 2.8 million total includes 1.5 million cars in Japan and 1.25 million cars around the rest of the world, including the U.S...  The recall also covers other vehicles sold outside the U.S., including the Corolla, wish and other models produced from 2000 to 2011...
